Air travel demand in Vietnam taking-off
The number of passengers on main routes to and from Vietnam is believed will increase more rapidly than the world’s average level in upcoming years.
The number of passengers travelling by air in the world is forecast to increase by 4.9% per annum, while the number of passengers on main routes to and from Vietnam is forecast to be much higher. The number of passengers on the route from Vietnam to Frankfurt, Germany alone is expected to see the growth rate of 10.2% per annum, according to Susana Martin-Romo Pozo, Marketing Analyst from Airbus.
According to the analyst, the rapid development of the national economy, rapid trade increase and higher foreign investment all will lead to the sharp increase in the number of passengers flying to and from Vietnam. She said that Vietnam will need bigger airlines, like A380, in the near future, to meet the increasingly high demand for travelling by air.
To date, Airbus has not received any order for A380 aircrafts from Vietnam. However, the demand for big carriers like the A380 will appear in the near future.
Airbus has got 30 orders from Vietnam so far, including from the national flag carrier Vietnam Airlines, which ordered 20 aircrafts, and from Vietnam Aircraft Chartering Company. Airbus will deliver A321 in 2011 and A350 in 2015.
Airbus has become the biggest aircraft supplier to Vietnam with 63% of the orders for over-100-seat aircrafts and 71% of large-body aircrafts.
