Vietnam Economic Forum - a roaring success
The second Vietnam Economic Forum (VEF) drew to a successful close as it actually became a venue for policy makers, researchers and local and foreign investors to discuss the challenges facing the national economy and to seek solutions to overcome those problems.
The statement was made by the Managing Deputy General Director of the Vietnam News Agency, Tran Mai Huong, in his speech to close the second VEF on September 19.
He said the forum offered a chance for the country to bolster economic cooperation, expand markets and attract investment from the region during the process of integration and development.
Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Education and Training, Nguyen Thien Nhan took the floor with a presentation that addressed the overhauling of human resources training to effectively meet the demands of the nation’s development.
Deputy PM Nhan affirmed that the Vietnamese Government has given top priority to the training of a highly-skilled workforce in the context that a high level of foreign investment continues to be pumped into Vietnam .
He pledged to support and assist businesses in having access to human resources as required, thus contributing to raising the competitiveness of businesses in particular and the economy in general.
Sharing with other participants his country’s educational experience, Singaporean Ambassador to Vietnam Lim Thuan Kuan stressed that “continuous education and close linkage between schools and businesses is the key to human resource development.”
The ILO’s senior expert on human resource development, Don Fraser, suggested that Vietnam develop a tripartite cooperation form involving the government, employers and employees to solve human resource-related issues.
According to the Chairman of KinderWorld Group, Risky Tan Teek Tong, Vietnamese businesses need to outline a long-term and systematic human resource development strategy in harmony with their business development goals.
The VEF Organising Board added that the representatives of businesses participating in the VEF will meet with authorities of the Red river delta Hai Duong province and representatives of the Ministry of Planning and Investment and the Vietnam Chamber of Commerce and Industry on September 20 to inquire into and examine the reality of the national economy.
