Trade value between Vietnam and Asia-Pacific increases sharply
Two-way trade turnover between Vietnam and the Asia-Pacific region hit approximately US$14 billion in the past seven months of the year with exports estimated at US$6.56 billion, up 54 percent compared to last year.
It accounted for 60.8 percent of the yearly plan and 67 percent of total earnings from exports to different parts of the world.
The figures were released at a conference held at the Vietnamese embassy in Tokyo, Japan on August 27 with the participation of Vietnamese ambassador to Japan Nguyen Phu Binh, Deputy Minister of Industry and Trade Nguyen Thanh Bien and trade counselors from 15 trade offices in the Asia-Pacific region.
At the conference, Deputy Minister Nguyen Thanh Bien said that there have been big fluctuations in the world and regional economic situations in recent times, making a negative impact on Vietnam’s economic development. He asked trade counselors to implement trade promotion activities effectively, contributing to ensuring socio-economic growth rates.
Vietnamese ambassador to Japan Nguyen Phu Binh emphasized that the Asia-Pacific is one of the leading regions which play a very important role in Vietnam’s economic trade and investment relations. The ambassador expressed hope that trade offices in the region will strive to fulfill this year’s targets set by the MoIT to increase the import-export by 28 percent.
Trade relations between Vietnam and the Asia Pacific region have strongly developed in the past seven months. The country’s exports have increased by 61 percent in Japan, by 59 percent in the Republic of Korea. Key export items are crude oil, coal, rubber, electronics, garment and textiles and handicrafts.
During the two day conference, participants will discuss solutions to promote economic and trade relations between Vietnam and regional countries.
