Firms focus on online services for remote trading
Brokerage houses have lately been focusing on their technical systems, especially online services, hoping to provide investors with better access to remote trading.
At the end of 2007, the HCM City Stock Exchange took the first steps in offering remote trading, which is expected to save investors both time and money. The initial trial was reported as successful, a promising sign that it will soon be in the public’s hands.
Recently, Small- and Medium-sized Enterprises Securities Company (SMES) provided customers with S-Suit, an online trading service which allowed customers put their orders directly to the receiving centre in the HCM City Stock Exchange or the Ha Noi Securities Trading Centre.
At FPT Securities a series of technical services have appeared, in preparation for remote trading planned for early next year.
VPBank Securities provided clients with new services to place their orders online.
"The expense for this technical promotion has taken a significant part of our income. But it’s compulsory for when remote trading will be implemented," said Bui Quang Phuong from a Ha Noi-based securities firm, which is applying an online service.
Provisions for online services should also help investors act faster and make more accurate decisions in trading once a floorless trading project starts, Phuong added.
"Investors now are mainly officers in high-rise buildings. They can easily do well with online services. The issue is how they get accustomed with placing orders online. These provisions are likely a trial move for them."
Online services not only provide remote trading, but also better access to other services.
According to Nguyen Thanh Nam, the director of the Technology Department under SME Securities, their S-Suit service should also help their brokers concentrate on their main task.
"Instead of acting as an official in both brokering and uploading orders from investors to the HOSE, brokers can now just concentrate on negotiating purchases and sales among investors," Nam added.
Investors react
Recent results provided by SME Securities on investors’ reactions to S-Suit proved that investors prefer online trading. Online trading with S-Suit has accounted for 70 per cent of SME Securities’ average daily trading since its introduction.
Nguyen Thanh Trung at Thien Viet Securities said that investors are now used to online trading services and consider it compulsory.
"As I heard, the trial test for remote trading, headed by HOSE, finished with good results. The project will soon be implemented, and if we only consider traditional methods of trading, we will miss some good opportunities in the future."
