Party leader calls for banks to curb inflation
The immediate task of the whole banking system is to be the shock force in the fight to curb inflation and to stabilise the macro economy.
This was the message Party General Secretary Nong Duc Manh gave managers and staff of VietinBank during a visit to mark the 20th anniversary of the bank in the capital yesterday. Manh spoke highly of the bank’s achievements in the past 20 years.
"From a bank engaged in primarily credits during the (pre doi moi) ‘command economy’, VietinBank has become a major commercial bank offering a wide range of businesses" Manh said, adding that in 20 years, the bank had scored an average growth rate of 30 per cent a year.
"I’m glad you have overcome many difficulties ... to raise the efficiency and quality of your services, to maintain and develop the capital resources of the State."
While he praised the bank for its contribution to the national program of poverty reduction and showing gratitude to those who have rendered services to the nation, he also pinpointed the bank’s weaknesses in quality, efficiency and competitiveness.
"Your contributions to the cause of industrialisation and modernisation have not matched (the obligations) that the State has invested in you," Manh said.
Manh called on the bank to join hands with other forces in the country to successfully curb inflation. He said that a good plan, good monetary policy and a good management system would make the bank a healthy credit-banking institution.
He asked the bank to adopt decisions to help control the inflation rate and to solve difficulties in production and in people’s living conditions.
