Central coastal provinces rich in titan-zircon ores

Scientists have found rich reserves of titan-zircon ores in central coastal Ninh Thuan and Binh Thuan provinces and the northern part of southern coastal Ba Ria-Vung Tau province.

According to Head of the Vietnam Department of Geology and Mining Tran Xuan Huong, the said conclusion was reached after series of studies on the red sand layer in said localities carried out by the department between 2005-2008.

As the result, the Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment is working on a detailed project on the country’s potential of titan-zircon ores up to 2010 to be submitted to the Prime Minister.

According to Professor Doctor Tran Van Tri, the titan-zircon mineral ores are not only located in the red sand layer of the said provinces, but also found around Phu Quy island, Binh Thuan province.
