US funds 1.4 m USD in aviation safety

Vietnam and the US have signed an agreement on the latter’s aid, enabling the continued aviation safety project with its second and third phases.

The project, with the US funding of 1.4 million USD for the three phases starting from 2006, aims to help Vietnamese aviation staffs to improve their capacity on supervising air traffic safety on the roadmap to open a direct air route to the US.

In early 2008, the national flag carrier Vietnam Airlines submitted its application to the US aviation management agency for a licence to operate direct flights scheduled to kick off in 2009 as the soonest
