Transport department seeks bus subsidy
The Ho Chi Minh City Department of Communications and Transport has asked the People’s Committee to provide bus companies a subsidy of 30 billion VND (1.8 million USD) to make up for their losses due to fuel price hikes this year.
It also asked the committee not to raise bus fares since many people are opting to travel by bus to save money.
The number of people using public transport has increased by 20 percent since the price hike last week, especially between Long An Province and HCM City , according to the Transport management Office.
