New requirements for alcohol traders

Businesses that want to trade imported or locally-made alcohol in Vietnam must show they have a business relationship with established producers or related agencies, a new Ministry of Industry and Trade circular said.

The July 25 circular provides guidance to government decree No. 40, which states wine is a special field with certain requirements that must be met in order to be licensed by state authorities.

New alcohol businesses must have documents or contracts issued by authorized alcohol producers, importers or other businesses, according to the circular.

The circular also said wine producers must meet certain technical and investment criteria covering processing and distilling, as well as Ministry of Health quality and hygiene standards.

Alcohol plants must be larger than 500 square meters.
