Industrial zone firms to relocate
Ninety-four companies in Bien Hoa Industrial Park in southern Dong Nai province are scheduled to be moved to other areas, following a decision of the provincial People’s Committee to limit pollution in the Dong Nai River.
At a recent meeting, Nguyen Manh Van, deputy head of the 335-ha industrial park’s management board, said sewage poured into the river was creating more pollution.
Waste treatment systems have also been deteriorating, badly affecting water sources for Dong Nai province and Ho Chi Minh City .
Van said that the management board was urging companies to find new locations, and estimated that it could take five to seven years to do so.
Dinh Quoc Thai, vice chairman of the provincial People’s Committee, said the province would convert the industrial park into a trading centre.
A recent investigation carried out by the province’s Department of Natural Resources and Environment showed that pollution in industrial parks in the province was increasing at an alarming rate.
Among 57,000 cu.m of sewage are released each day from the province’s 13 industrial parks, and only 20,000 cu.m have been treated.
Nine out of the 13 industrial parks are responsible for most of the sewage in the river. They include Ho Nai, Bien Hoa 1, Nhon Trach 2, Nhon Trach 3, Song May, Amata, Go Dau, Tam Phuoc and Loteco.
