First private airline leases two Boeing 737s
VietJet Air, the first private airline in Vietnam, signed a letter of intent with GECAS, an aircraft leasing and finance firm, to lease two Boeing 737-700 for seven years.
The airline is preparating for its first scheduled flight, which will take place by the end of the year.
The two aircraft will be handed over by GECAS to VietJet Air in mid-November. Each aircraft can accommodate 125 economy-class passengers and 18 business-class passengers.
VietJet Air is now in the process of leasing a third aircraft. VietJet Air will eventually lease 20 aircraft, according to the company’s business plan.
At present, VietJet Air is recruiting candidates for management. When in full operation, the airline will create about 400 jobs.
At first, VietJet Air will offer only domestic service, including Ha Noi- Ho Chi Minh City and Ha Noi – Da Nang. Later, the airline will fly internationally to Hong Kong, southern China, Bangkok, South Korea and Japan.
