Cutting expenses, the best policy for now
Enterprises, from small to big ones, now all have to cut expenses to struggle with the current difficult period.
The Corporation for Financing and Promoting Technology (FPT), once thought to have unlimited reserves, has set up new regulations to cut expenses.
FPT Mobile now does not ask its staffs to work on Saturdays. The divisions that need to work on Saturdays, like import-export or sales, must notify the administration division in advance about work on weekends.
FPT is a big group with member companies in many localities. Therefore, instead of organising meetings in Hanoi or HCM City, the group now uses tele-conference services in order to cut down on travel expenses and save time.
FPT’s representative said that it has set up new regulations on office expenditure management. For example, those who make calls with the duration of more than 10 minutes must explain the reasons for the calls. If they are private calls, callers have to pay a fee 5 times higher than the normal fee. If staffs make 30-minute calls that serve the company’s work but cannot explain the necessity of the calls, they still have to pay a fee in accordance with the fee levels stipulated by the post.
Sources say that FPT is reconsidering its personnel policy, and planning to cut its workforce in some member companies or divisions. As the stock market is falling, a lot of FPT Securities Company staffs have lost their jobs.
A.V Company has set up a new regulation on using company cars. The staffs of the company can only use the cars if they need to go on business to a place 50 km from the company. The director of the company now flies economy tickets instead of business class as previously.
The Song Hoa Trade and Service Company has asked its managers to notify three days in advance about their business trips to other localities, so that the administration division can arrange suitable schedules and cars to save petrol and accommodation expenses.
The company now provides stationery products to staffs once a month, and only provides additional stationery when there are training courses.
Home appliance and mobile phone showrooms now have new appearances. Previously, 2-4 beautiful girls standing in the doorway were hired to ‘polish the image of the suppliers or producers’. Nowadays, only one or two girls greet clients at the doorway. Many showrooms do not have receptionists, but only salesmen.
Previously, VinaGame allowed its staffs to stay late to work at the office. But nowadays, they cannot work late any more because the electricity and air conditioning systems must be turned off by 8 pm.
Enterprises all are considering cutting PR and marketing campaigns in order to cut expenses.
Nguyen Thi Kim Thoa, PR Director of VinaGame, said that the administration fee for every staff is estimated at VND5mil a month, and that cutting expenses proves to be a very important thing now to deal with inflation.
Thoa related that at first, the company’s staffs did not like the new policy on practicing thrift. However, they have gotten used to the new regulations.
T.C.M Company is also practicing thrift but is doing it another way. The company is not recruiting more staffs, but assigning more works to its existing staffs.
