Australia helps Vietnam carry out small projects
The Australian Embassy in Hanoi has announced 97,000 AUD (92,000 USD) for small-scale development projects to help disadvantaged communities from Thua Thien-Hue to northward provinces.
The sum is channeled from now to this time next year through the Direct Aid Programme (DAP), whose priority areas include health, education and environment.
According to the Embassy, DAP funding is a available to individuals, community groups and NGOs engaged in development activities, in Vietnam, on a not-for profit basis.
In the 2007-2008 fiscal year, DAP funded small-scale development projects in Hanoi and the provinces of Bac Giang, Bac Ninh, Hai Duong, Ha Tay, Thai Binh, Thanh Hoa, Nghe An, Ha Tinh, Quang Binh, Quang Tri and Thua Thien-Hue.
In addition to DAP funding, Australia will provide an estimated 104 million AUD in official development assistance (ODA) to Vietnam in the 2008-2009 fiscal year.
