Hiccup upsets HCMC gold exchange again
The Saigon Gold Exchange Friday suffered an unexpected technical error for the second time this month, halting all transactions on the Ho Chi Minh City trading floor for more than 20 minutes.
The problem froze the exchange’s date entry system 10 minutes after the 9 a.m. opening.
A similar glitch occurred last Friday, which halted trading for the best part of a day.
The gold price Friday opened VND50,000 higher at VND19.1 million (US$1,134) per tael (one tael is equal to 37.5 grams).
But just as the precious metal’s price fell to VND18.9 million per tae at 9.10 a.m., an error prevented traders from placing buying and selling orders.
Angry gold trader Nguyen Phi Hung slammed a table with his hands and loudly asked the exchange’s management board to explain.
Asia Commercial Bank Deputy General Director Nguyen Thanh Toai invited traders to his office to explain the data entry system had been overloaded with orders at 9.10 a.m.
“The system developer sent technicians to the exchange to check the entire system,” Toai said.
The exchange resumed trading at 9.26 a.m. Friday.
