VN-Index opens new week with  slight drop

The Ho Chi Minh City Stock Exchange today April 21 continued to witness another slight drop on the first trading session of the week as the VN-Index fell 0.44% or 2.39 points to close at 534.92.

Total market trading volume reduced sharply with only 5.3 million shares and fund certificates were traded through three order matching phase for nearly VND 262 billion. In addition, 736,000 other shares and 1.7 million bonds were traded through negotiations worth VND 195 billion.

The total number of listed on the southern bourse has increased to 154 as Bao Minh Joint Stock Corporation which had earlier listed on the northern bourse today officially listed 75.5 million BMI shares on the HOSE at an initial price of 48,000 a share. The share closed its first session on the HOSE with nearly 146,000 shares changed hands at VND 38,400 a share, down to the maximum allowed trading margin of 20%.

The number of decliners outstripped that of gainers. As many as 107 stocks slipped while only 39 reported gains and eight others stayed unchanged.

Foreign investors this session spent VND 149 billion to buy 2.46 million shares while sold only 233,000 shares worth VND 15 billion.

Of the large-cap stocks in the HOSE, five gained and five lost. The gainers were VNM, PVD, ITA, PPC and VIC while the losers were DPM, FPT, STB, SSI and HPG.

DPM lost VND 1,000 to VND 52,000 a share as today was the ex-dividend day.

DPM also topped of the list of most traded stocks with over 789,000 shares matched, followed by SSI (536,830 shares,) PPC (401,520 shares) and PVD (286,470) and FPT (234,320 shares).

The market indicator of Hanoi Securities Trading Center, the HASTC-Index, today also suffered another drop slipped another 2.44 points or 1.36% to finish at 177.33.

Investors changed hands over 2.7 million shares listed on the bourse worth nearly VND 119 billion.

The northern bourse today welcomed one more stock, the L62 of the Lilama 69.2 Joint Stock Company, a subsidiary of the Lilama Corporation. The company listed 3 million shares on the bourse. On its first trading day, 183,000 L62 shares were traded at an average price of VND 40,900 a share. The stock was also among the top five most traded stocks on the northern bourse today, together with ACB (309,400 shares), PVS (265,800 shares), PVI (253,600 shares) and DBC (117,400 shares).

Amongst 134 listed shares on the HASTC, 26 gained while 96 others decreased, seven stocks remained unchanged and five others saw no trades at all.
