Real estate shares strengthen on bourse

Vietnam's real estate market is growing as investors turn to the real estate shares to make profits.

Trading of real estate shares has increased as real estate, prices themselves continue to rise, said Vu Duc Nghia, Vice President of Bien Viet Securities.

Many companies that have listed shares on securities markets or the OTC have gained strong profits from real estate projects.

After Song Da 9.06 JSC listed its shares at the Ha Noi Securities Trading Centre (HaSTC) on January 9 with a price of VND70,700 per share, the share price has been on a steady climb and yesterday it closed at VND103,700.

Now, the price and volume of trading shares continue to rise while the securities market looks gloomy.

Song Da (S96) has strengthened its shares by announcing an expected net profit of VND80bil this year and plans to build the Tan Tao Urban Area, an urban area in Ha Tay Province and an apartment building in 100B Hoang Quoc Viet, Hanoi.

Investors expect Hoang Anh Gia Lai Group will gain a profit of VND2.5tril this year thanks to its projects on building luxury apartments in HCM City. Now, the company's shares is still on a high on the OTC market.

Securities analysts said investors expect real estate companies will increase their profits.

In the fact, investors see Vietnam's real estate market as hot for the next 2-3 years.

But the real estate market is sensitive and does contain considerable risks.

Investor Nguyen Vinh Tuong said he was stung by the real estate market. He said he considered the REE company as strong in real estate and finance, and noting that they were running several attractive projects so he bought 10,000 company shares priced at VND173,000 per share. But now, the price has fallen to VND116,000 and he has lost about VND500mil.

My Phuong, another investor, said she has bought 4,000 shares in the Tan Binh Culture JSC when she heard about the firm's coming real estate projects. Now she has also lost capital when prices on the securities market fell.

Dao Trong Tien, head of Hai Phong Securities Company's Consulting Department, said that while investors know about the activities of companies, they should also study their scale and trademark.
