Viva drinking water gets a makeover

The Lao Soft Drink Company Limited on Apr. 04 unveiled new-look bottles for its Viva drinking water product, as well as a new 350ml beverage size.

The new developments were made public at a ceremony held by the company at Talat Sao Shopping Mall in Vientiane.

Production of Viva drinking water began in 2005, and the product received a Gold Award in 2007, according to a report delivered during the ceremony.

In 2009, Viva received a Platinum Award to certify that the drinking water is of a high quality and meets international standards.

The product has also been awarded ISO 9001:2008 certification.

Lao Soft Drink Company Limited is an associate business body of Pepsi Cola Beverage International, and was established in 1971. Pepsi provides a production license to the company.

In 1993, in line with the Party's open market policy, the company was launched as a new joint-venture, with the Lao government holding 30 percent of shares, Loxley Public Company Limited holding 30 percent, Italian-Thai Public Company Limited 30 percent and Sermsuk Public Company Limited 10 percent.

In 2005 ownership of the company changed to 30 percent by the Lao government, 30 percent by Loxley Public Company Limited, 30 percent by a private Lao investor, Mr Viphet Sihachackr, and 10 percent by Sermsuk Public Company Limited.

Since October 31, 2007, the company has been 70 percent owned by Carlsberg Breweries A/S of Denmark and 30 percent by the Lao government.

Pepsi Cola was established in the US in 1898. Its taste and quality quickly became apparent to the public and it has since developed into one of the most popular drinks in the world. Pepsi Cola first came to Laos in the 1960s in order to test the market.
