Vietnam-made goods reaching out to remote areas

In many areas in the Mekong River Delta, people can see motorbikes, trucks and boats carrying goods to rural areas to sell at soft prices. By various means, Vietnam-made goods are now reaching remote areas.

Vietnam-made goods selling like hot cakes

Nguyen Thi Lien and her sister park their motorbike on a deserted land plot on the side of An Phong Canal in Thap Muoi district, then they stretch out a nylon sheet on the ground and lay out leather shoes, plastic slippers and handbags for sale.

Lam Van Thanh and his wife have a ‘stall’ next to Lien’s. Sets of clothes are hung on a string fastened to tree branches. As soon as products are put on display, many customers come to look. A pair of sandals or shoes is sold for just a few tens of thousand dong only; therefore, the goods sell well.

Lien related that she comes from Thanh Binh district and she once worked for other people in HCM City. One time, she noted that a lot of products at An Dong Market in HCM City were very cheap and she decided to buy them wholesale to bring to rural and remote areas to sell.

“Vietnam-made products have good designs and soft prices and farmers like them a lot,” Lien said, adding that she has decided to give up the job in HCM City to focus on the ‘new business’.

Meanwhile, Thanh related that he was once a worker in a factory in Binh Duong province, but then he became redundant. Thanh was lucky enough to realise that there was a high demand for ready-made clothes in rural areas. Then he decided to carry clothes from cities to rural areas to sell.

Enterprises also jumping into rural markets

Having realised the high demand in rural areas, many producers have also been trying to bring products directly to rural markets.

At Vinh Thanh Trung trade area in An Giang province, one can see a lot of trucks arriving and leaving all the time. The staff of Dutch Lady Vietnam whom Tuoi tre newspaper met said that they always came to help sales agents to distribute products and carry goods to communes. In areas where trucks can’t reach, goods are carried on motorbikes.

Tran Van Lan from Kim Thanh Company, which makes inox consumer products, related that his company has recruited some more workers to push up sales. Many teams of workers have been set up who go to even more remote areas to sell products to farmers and advertise their products.

“In fact, the demand is very big in rural areas. We can sell more than ten million dong worth of products each time we bring goods to rural areas,” he said.

Huu Tin Plastics and Packaging Company in An Nghiep industrial zone in Soc Trang province has also sent staff to communes and villages to introduce its products. Housewives, who want to purchase plastic wash basins and plastic chairs, but do not want to travel a long distance to the market, are happy to purchase the products retailers bring to them.

“I like purchasing the products brought to my home. I do not have to travel to the market for which I can save some ten thousand dong on petrol,” said Tran Ngoc Mai, a housewife in Dai Ngai commune.

Huu Tin’s Director Tran Lap Nghia said that in one month of bringing goods to rural areas, his company earns the revenue of 30 million dong He said that his company plans to bring goods to sell not only in Soc Trang province, but in other provinces in the Mekong Delta as well.
