PetroVietnam to open new power plant next week
Vietnam National Oil and Gas Group, or PetroVietnam, will inaugurate a 450-megawatt power plant in southern Dong Nai Province next week, it said.
The VND6.5 trillion (US$380 million) Nhon Trach 1 Power Plant is expected to generate about 2.5 billion kilowatt-hours a year.
The construction of the plant started in March 2007. Its first two turbines were connected to the national grid on May 25 and August 28 last year respectively.
In related news, PetroVietnam said it will start construction of the 214-hectare Vung Ang 1 Thermo-Power Plant in the central province of Ha Tinh next week.
The 7.2 billion kilowatt-hour a year plant is expected to have its first turbine connected to the national grid in the third quarter of 2012.
According to PetroVietnam, its total investment cost is about $1.6 billion.
