Plastics industry sets sights on US$1 billion in exports
The plastics industry is targeting an export turnover of US$1 billion in 2009, a year-on-year increase of 15.9 percent, says the Vietnam Plastics Association.
The plastics industry will have a range of opportunities to expand production over the next couple of years and increase its export turnover. Moreover, the plastics market is expansive and not too difficult to break into, the association says.
Though the industry is expected to reach a high export turnover, the association warns that it will be a year of challenges due to the global financial crisis.
“The most important thing is that domestic plastics companies must co-operate and support each other to overcome any difficulties they encounter”, says Phan Van Thanh, chairman of the association.
To help the industry boost its production this year, the association is encouraging domestic companies to study the Japanese and Middle Eastern markets.
It will set up a foundation to develop the Vietnamese plastics industry. It also proposes that the Government allows the industry to import the necessary machinery to produce high quality plastics.
