- December 17, 1964: Vietnam Insurance Company (Bao Viet) was established with a charter capital of VND10 million under the Decision No 179/CP by Vietnam Government;
- 1989: Renamed as Vietnam Insurance Corporation;
- 2007: Equitized and started to operate as a JSC;
- 2008: Bao Viet Holdings was formed on January 23rd with Bao Viet Insurance Corporation, Bao Viet Life Insurance Group, Bao Viet Fund Management Company.
- June 25, 2009: Traded on the Ho Chi Minh Stock Exchange (HOSE);
- 2011: Charter capital was raised to VND6,804 billion.
- 2012: Sumitomo Life of Japan became strategic partner with 18% stake in BVH which was transferred by HSBC Insurance with a value of USD 340 million ( VND7 billion) in December
