Blue chips continue to drive stocks down

Profit-taking continued during this Tuesday morning's session, with shares ending in the red on a higher trading value.

On the HCM City Stock Exchange, the VN-Index shed 2 per cent, finishing at 459.99 points.

The number of decliners outnumbered advancers by a factor of 12.

Meanwhile, market value increased more than 16 per cent compared to yesterday morning, hitting VND1.1 trillion (US$52.3 million) on a volume of nearly 69.6 million shares.

Only Sacombank (STB), which is among the 10 leading shares by capitalisation, added 1.7 per cent. The other nine stocks tumbled, with insurer Bao Viet Holdings (BVH) plunging to the floor.

The VN30 of the 30 best stocks lost 1.6 per cent to end at 527.92 points.

On the Ha Noi Stock Exchange, the HNX-Index slid nearly 1.8 per cent, dropping 77.45 points. Losers outnumbered gainers by 237-30.

The value and volume of trades were essentially unchanged from yesterday morning's figure, with 47.8 million shares exchanged, worth VND493.4 billion ($23.4 million).

The most heavily traded code was again Habubank (HBB), which saw 4.3 million shares changing hands.
