Kingdom, Indonesia said close to rice deal
Cambodia is close to a deal that would ship as much as 20,000 tonnes of milled rice to Indonesia, according to sources familiar with the matter.
Thon Virak, director of state-owned rice exporter Green Trade and chairman of Federation of Milled Rice Exporters Association, said Green Trade has been in discussions with Indonesia’s Green Mineral Resource (Cambodia), and that an agreement is waiting for approval by both countries’ governments.
Angela A Soewono, third secretary at the Embassy of the Republic of Indonesia in Phnom Penh, confirmed the talks but could not discuss specifics of the deal.
Thon Vireak said the order is for between 10,000 and 20,000 tonnes at US$400 per tonne. “Actually, they ordered about 200,000 tonnes, but I couldn’t accept because it is very big,” he said. Green Mineral Resource (Cambodia) could not be reached for comment.
