The youth also hoard gold

It is quite normal to see elderly people and married people, who have to feed dependent children to “save up for the rainy day” by keeping gold at their coffers. However, hoarding gold has become “in fashion” among young people as well.

Not keeping dong, keeping gold

Nguyen Ngoc Huyen, an officer of a medical equipment distribution company, said she began hoarding gold eight years ago, when she was the fourth year student of the university and began working to get the money of her own. Huyen did not spend the money she earned but bought gold to keep in her coffer.

“When I finished university, I had 0.3 taels of gold already,” she said.

Huyen keeps the habit of hoarding gold when she began going to work. Unlike the friends, who earn money to pay for meals, bars and parties, Huyen saves up and buys gold every time when she has enough money. As such, Huyen god five taels of gold from the day she began working to the day she got married.

To date, Huyen has got 20 taels of gold, and she uses gold as a payment tool in nearly all transactions. “I have bought a second hand motorbike from a relative and I paid 0.15 taels for it,” she said, adding that keeping gold is the safest way to protect assets.

Nguyen Thai Linh, born in 1984, has decided to follow the mother in law and keep gold in her coffers. “My husband and I have earned 20 million dong from a job, and we decided to borrow 3 million dong from the mother to buy 0.5 taels of gold,” she said.

“We are still young and we have time to earn more and more money. However, my mother in law has told me that keeping gold is a wise way to preserve assets, because gold will never lose its value. I agree with her,” Linh said.

Sometimes Linh wants to use the sums of money she earns to buy a brand new scooter. However, her husband has persuaded them that it would be better to buy gold. “Buying scooter or anything else is within our reach if we have gold. Gold means money,” he said.

Provident about the future

Having received nearly 10 million dong in salary, Nguyen Thai Thinh in Dong Da district went to a gold shop to buy a gold bracelet. In fact, Thinh has dreamed of a valuable jewelry item for a long time. If she spends 7 million dong on the bracelet, she would have only less than 2 million dong more to cover all expenses of the family in the month. However, Thinh still thinks that this is a reasonable decision, because the bracelet is not only jewelry, but it is an assets, which can be sold for money when necessary. Therefore, even though the gold price is now high, Thinh has decided to buy the bracelet.

Not only girls, young men now also have the habit of hoarding gold. Truong Hoang Nam in Thanh Xuan district said that he works in the finance sector, therefore, he understands the market well. At the age of 27, Nam has bought two taels of gold already.

“In the past, I spent all the money I earned. However, I have changed my mind. You need to save up for the rainy day, don’t you?” he said.

“My friends all try to buy gold every time they have money. So I decided to follow them,” he added. As a finance experts, he believes that keeping gold is the safest method of preserving assets, because one never fear about loss if he has gold in hands.
