VN-Index dips below 360

Stocks on the Ho Chi Minh City Stock Exchange finished week in sour note, pinning the Vietnam’s benchmark VN-Index at the lowest level since May 2009 on December 23 as investors continued to sell off fearing a further decline.

The measure which tracks 302 companies and five mutual funds listed on the Ho Chi Minh City Stock Exchange ruined 1.15 percent, or 4.16 points, to close at 356.21 points.

This week, the gauge lost 2.7 percent, increasing this year’s loss to 26.5 percent.

There were 86 gainers, 134 losers, and 87 stocks were unchanged on the benchmark.

Trading on the city bourse fell by 37 percent in volume, and 50 percent in value over the previous day as 29 million shares changed hands at a total value of VND400 billion.

The fourth largest listed bank Saigon Thuong Tin Joint Stock Commercial Bank or Sacombank (STB) remained at the position of the most active share in volume with 2.22 million shares changing hands.

Tan Tao Investment & Technology Joint Stock Company (ITA) followed with 1.27 million shares.

Ocean Group Joint Stock Company (OGC) tagged along with 1.09 million shares traded.

Meca Vneco Investment & Electricity Construction Joint Stock Company (VES) declined the third day, retreating 5.88 percent to close at VND1,600.

Ha Do Group Joint Stock Company (HDG) closed down 5.38 percent to close at VND12,300.

Saigon Beverages Joint Stock Company (TRI) and Phuong Nam Cultural Joint Stock Corporation (PNC) both sank 5 percent to VND1,900, and VND3,800 respectively.

Basa Joint Stock Company (BAS) curbed its five-day losing streak, reviving 8.33 percent to VND1,300.

Vietnam Active Fund (VFMVFA) strengthened 5 percent to finish at VND4,200.

HAI Agrochem Joint Stock Company (HAI) edged up 4.9 percent to VND21,400.

Hanoi’s HNX-Index of the smaller bourse in the north trimmed 0.72 percent, or 0.42 points, to close at 58.42 points. Around 25.96 million shares changed hands at a value of VND200.04 billion.

Meanwhile, the UPCoM-Index of unlisted shares slid 0.06 percent, or 0.02 points, to 34.17 points at 1:55pm local time. A total of 225,624 shares changed hands at a value of VND1.59 billion.
