Phongsavanh Bank reaping rewards of new account

Phongsavanh Bank has welcomed more than 200 billion kip (US$25 million) through its new fixed deposit account service, which it established to mark its fifth anniversary.

“The bank has taken in over 200 billion kip within only two months, after opening the new fixed deposit account in September,” the bank's Deputy Managing Director, Mr Bounthanh Vongsoury, said at the bank's first lucky draw for customers in Vientiane on Tuesday.

The new fixed deposit account, which carries a minimum period of two years, has proven popular among businesspeople, enterprises and members of public, as the bank looks to capitalise on five years of service.

“From the progress we have seen in the first two months, we think we will continue to see new fixed deposit accounts opening to the tune of over US$10 million per month,” Mr Bounthanh said.

He said the bank will organise similar lucky draws twice next year, one at the end of January and another in March, to attract more customers.

The bank launched the new fixed deposit account as part of its expansion of services to mark the bank's fifth anniversary, which falls next March.

It aims to attract more customers by entering account holders into such lucky draws, which offer the chance of winning 5 billion kip in attractive prizes, including pick-up trucks, personal accounts, return flights from Vientiane to Bangkok, and cards for use at fuel stations.

Three weeks ago, the bank launched the Quick Cash Phase 2 credit scheme to mark its anniversary, which serves to ease the daily cost of living for soldiers, police officers and others.

The bank predicts that in phase 2 of the scheme it will issue loans to 20,000 households per year with financial resources of not less than 200 billion kip per year, which it envisages will increase annually.

The scheme aims to support the government's policy on poverty reduction in order to gradually improve living conditions in Laos.

Phongsavanh Bank, which opened in Vientiane in March 2007, is a private, licensed bank providing financial services to individuals, businesses, and government agencies.

In June, the bank launched a new product and service centre, SME Pro, to provide services to nine sectors of small and medium sized enterprises (SME), including agricultural production; food processing; construction; retail and wholesale; auto repair; hotels, guesthouses and restaurants; transportation; education and business administration; handicrafts; and environmental protection.
