Vientiane province's GDP grows by 9.3%

Agriculture, mining and tourism have experience a significant growth in the first six months. Meanwhile the provincial gross domestic product in the first half of the year is 9.3 per cent.

"In the first six months, 357 projects have been approved, totally amounting to over 1 trillion kip," said Deputy Head of Planning and Investment Service of Vientiane Province, Mr. Soukanh Vilaihack.

The investment by the government in the first half of the year is over 112 billion kip in 289 projects and foreign direct investment is over 36 billion kip.

In the same period, the investment by domestic companies is valued at over 75 billion kip.

The service said the investment recorded in the first half of this year represented 68 per cent of its annual plan.

Among the projects approved in the first half, 49 projects have been implemented with funding from international donors.

The provincial service said that the Republic of Korea played an important role in funding development and investment projects in the province.
