Seminar on promoting Japanese investors holds in Savannakhet
The ministry of planning and investment in collaboration with the Japanese Embassy in Laos and JETRO the ASEAN-Japan Center organized on 14 September at the Daosavanh Hotel, Savannakhet province a seminar to promote the Japanese investment in the Lao PDR.
The function was attended by Mr. Somdy Douangdy, Minister of Planning and Investment, Ms. Junko Yokota, Ambassador of Japan in Lao PDR, Dr. Souphanh Keomisay, governor of Savannakhet province, as well as Vice-President of JETRO from Japan and President of JETRO in Bangkok, Japanese businesspeople from 70 companies from Japan, and businesspeople from Lao PDR.
Speaking at the seminar, Mr. Somdy Douangdy pointed out the policy of the five-year socio-economic development plan of the government (2011-2015) by stressing on the quality of the rate of the economic growth (GDP) by 8 percent per year and more, the average of income per capita of US$1,700, the Millennium Development Goals which are the solution of poverty of population.
Ms. Junko Yokota the Ambassador of Japan to Laos informed the situation of investment by Japanese investors in the Lao PDR. Japan is the first ranking countries and extend ODA to Lao PDR, and would like to see Japanese investment in Laos in various levels, actually Japanese investments are ranked 6th among foreign investors in the Lao PDR.
On this occasion, Dr. Souphanh Keomixay, Governor of Savannakhet province expressed his warm welcome to the leading officials from various levels and Japanese investors who came to Savannakhet province; he also informed the situation of the socio-economic development in Savannakhet province as well as the hidden potentials of the East-West Economic Corridor.
