Hanoi GDP up 9.4 percent in Jan.-Sept. period
Hanoi saw a 9.4 percent increase in GDP (Gross domestic product) in the first nine months of this year, according to the Hanoi Statistics Office. The highest growth was achieved by industrial and construction sectors (10.1 percent), followed by the services sector, (9.3 percent) and the agriculture-forestry and fisheries sector, (4.3 percent).
Head of the Hanoi Statistics Office Cong Xuan Mui attributed the growth to the industrial and construction enterprises’ efforts to surmount a lot of difficulties such as high bank interest rates and high costs of raw materials and input fuel, and to the Government Resolutions 11’s effective measures to stablise socio-economy, control inflation, boost production and business.
He forecast that the city would achieve a yearly GDP growth of 9.6 percent this year since the weather appeared rather good for agricultural production.
Also in the first nine months of the year, Hanoi welcomed 6.2 million visitors, a 6.2 percent decrease over the same period last year. Of the figure, 898,000 were foreigners, a year-on-year increase of 6.7 percent.
