Aircraft parts factory set to open this year
The first aircraft parts manufacturer in Laos could start business at the end of this year as construction of a factory in the Savan-Xeno Special Economic Zone is nearing completion, according to a senior official.
Savan-Xeno Special Economic Zone Deputy Governor Mr Thongsay Sayavongkhamdy said on Wednesday that Aeroworks has completed 90 percent of its aircraft parts facility and hopes to finalise installation of machinery and start operations at the end of this year.
The company will produce aircraft parts for export such as door locks, overhead lockers, seats, washroom fittings, and door and window fittings. The company's customers include Airbus, Boeing, Suhoi Superjet and Mitsubishi, he said.
Mr Thongsay said the Holland Company has sent five Lao workers to other countries for a three month training programme so they can train other staff at the factory. The company plans to employ about 100 workers at the facility, he said
The company plans to expand its business in 2013 to employ about 600 workers if all runs smoothly.
According to Mr Thongsay, one of the main reasons the company decided to invest in the Savannakhet special economic zone is the government's policy to provide incentives to investors.
The zone also provides investors with a one-stop service, making it easier to import raw materials for assembly purposes and to export products to global markets.
The Savan-Xeno Special Economic zone is located in the so-called East-West economic corridor, a further attraction for potential investors.
