Shares up in HCM City, down in Ha Noi on sluggish trades

Shares rebounded slightly on the HCM Stock Exchange Monday morning but lost value on the Ha Noi bourse. Volumes and value on both exchanges remained bleak.

In HCM City, the VN-Index regained 0.1 per cent to close on 384.32 points. Market value dropped by 36 per cent over Friday to nearly VND230.6 billion (US$11 million) on a volume of 15.5 million shares.

Gainers outnumbered losers by 116-84.

Four of the 10 largest rising capitalized shares included Phu My Fertiliser (DPM) up 2.1 per cent, real estate developer Hoang Anh Gia Lai (HAG) up 0.6 per cent, steelmaker Hoa Phat Group (HPG) up 0.7 per cent and property developer Vincom (VIC) up 2 per cent.

The fourth largest lender on the bourse, Sacombank (STB), was the only share trading in excess of over 1 million, becoming the most active share on the southern bourse. STB closed unchanged at VND12,800 ($0.62).

In Ha Noi, the HNX-Index slid 0.36 per cent from Friday to close on 65.78 points. Trading value decreased slightly to VND147.5 billion ($7.1 million) as just 15.4 million shares changed hands.

Decliners inched up advancers by 124-106.

Sai Gon-Ha Noi Bank (SHB), with over 2 million shares exchanged, became the most heavily-traded share nationwide, closing unchanged at VND6,800 a share.
