Shares up in HCM City, down in Ha Noi
The VN-Index gained 0.25 per cent from last Friday's close to reach 415.77 points, despite a tumble in the majority of listed codes.
On the HCM Stock Exchange, the value of trades dipped 8.4 per cent to VND346.2 billion (US$16.8 million) on a volume of 19.3 million shares.
Of the 10 leading shares by capitalisation, the advance of five shares helped to lift the southern bourse's benchmark. They were real estate developer Vincom (VIC), which hit its ceiling price of VND124,000, and insurer Bao Viet Holdings (BVH), Eximbank (EIB), software giant FPT (FPT) and Sacombank (STB) up between 0.2-2.9 per cent.
Five other shares plunged by 0.7-1.9 per cent.
STB was the most-active code with around 2 million shares exchanged.
On the Ha Noi Stock Exchange, the HNX-Index fell 0.7 per cent to end this morning's session at 71.02 points.
Losers outnumbered gainers by 165-71.
Market value, however, jumped 35.6 per cent compared to last Friday to VND228.8 billion ($11.1 million). The volume of trades also soared by 51.2 per cent to 24.2 million shares.
Kim Long Securities Company (KLS) saw the highest volume of 1.4 million shares change hands, closing the day down 1.9 per cent.
