Lao coffee demanded for Japan drinkers
Dao Houang coffee is demanded by foreign markets, particularly Japan, according to President of Dao Heuang Group Leuang Litdang.
Ms. Leuang said that her company has signed agreement on coffee trading at reasonable prices with Japanese company.
"Market demand for coffee in Japan is high. They are capable of buying as much as we have. Japanese business people have visited our company and learned our producing process and evaluated our ability in supplying them coffee," said Ms. Leuang.
She said that since Japan has high demand for coffee, her company wasted no hesitate to invest a large sum for improving its coffee manufacturing.
The company has urged farmers in southern provinces to plant more coffee for export and pledged them a guaranteed price for coffee they produce.
�Presently, the farmers need as much as one million coffee saplings, but we cannot supply them in such amount,� said Ms. Leuang. She furthered that the company failed to provide them saplings in required amount because its cultivation was required to comply with high agricultural techniques and standards.
Last year, the price of coffee bean in the country was 4,200 kip per kilogram and it is expected to be higher this year.
