Certain ODA projects to get preferential interest rate
Four economic areas will enjoy preferential interest rates when taking out official development assistance loans granted by foreign countries, according to the Government.
Under Prime Minister's Decision No.29/2011/QD-TTg released on June 1, economic-technical-social infrastructure includes industry, finance and credit and projects in areas where ethnic Khmer live, communes that benefit from poverty reduction Programme 135 and job-creation Programme 120 for border areas.
Also entitled to low-interest loans will be projects that supply water for industrial production and urban daily consumption, urban and industrial solid waste treatment and industrial sewage treatment programmes. The construction of medical facilities, education and training centres, railways, highways and deep-sea ports will also benefit from preferential interest rates.
Three types of industrial projects will be given precedence – new and renewable environmentally-friendly power plants, power grid and power transmission programmes in rural areas, and information technology and communications in rural areas.
The preferential interest rate will be 30 per cent of the lending interest rate on foreign currency or the Vietnamese dong.
The decision will take effect on July 20.
