Strong performers lift the VN-Index
The VN-Index gained 0.07 per cent to close at 460.96 points Thusday morning on the HCM City Stock Exchange.
Despite decliners outnumbering advancers by 3-to-1, the strong performance of influential stocks such as insurer Bao Viet Holdings (BVH) and financial Masan Group (MSN) helped lift the index.
MSN hit its ceiling price again today at VND91,000 (US$4.35) while BVH rose 3.4 per cent.
The trading value increased 6 per cent from Apr. 14 to VND524.9 billion ($25.1 million) with around 24.5 million shares changing hands.
Sacombank continued to be the most active stock on the southern bourse with nearly 2 million shares exchanged, closing down 0.7 per cent to VND13,800 ($0.66) a share.
Other blue chips also performed poorly. PetroVietnam Finance lost 3.4 per cent, Eximbank (EIB) was down 0.7 per cent, software giant FPT Corporation (FPT) dropped 0.9 per cent and property developer Vincom (VIC) fell 1.5 per cent.
On the Ha Noi Stock Exchange, the HNX-Index lost another 1.22 per cent to close the session at 87.98 points. The trading value rose 20 per cent to more than VND319.1 billion ($15.3 million) as nearly 22.5 million shares changed hands.
Losers largely outnumbered gainers by 221-56.
Kim Long Securities (KLS) was again the most active stock on the Ha Noi bourse with 2 million shares moving. It closed unchanged at VND9,600 ($0.46).
