Stocks rally with improved volume

More than 60 per cent of stocks gained points Wednesday morning, pushing the VN-Index in HCM City up 1.69 per cent to close at 464.94 points.

Trading volume was 14.6 per cent higher than on Tuesday. A total of 27.3 million shares changed hands, worth VND624 billion (US$29.7 million).

About 40 listed stocks hit their ceiling prices, including Hoang Quan Corporation (HQC) and Cuong Thuan Idico Investment and Development Company (CTI), which both rose 4.9 per cent. Meanwhile, Phu My Fertilisers (DPM), Sao Mai Construction Companay (ASM) and Binh Dinh Minerals (BMC) rose 4.8 per cent. Software producer FPT Corporaton (FPT) saw its shares rise 4.6 per cent.

Only five codes hit the floor. They were all small caps, including Imexpharm Pharmaceutical (IMP), down 5 per cent; Dong Do Marine Company (DDM), down 4.5 per cent; and Full Power Company (FPC), down 2.8 per cent.

In Ha Noi, the HNX-Index rose for the second day. The bourse climbed 1.4 per cent to 91.83 points.

A total of 28 million shares, worth VND410.3 billion ($19.5 million), changed hands, up 25.6 per cent on Tuesday.
