Isuzu looks to boost sales on 5th anniversary

The Isuzu Lao VSA Company hopes to sell more than 1,000 Isuzu DMax vehicles this year as the brand marks its 5th anniversary in the Lao automotive market.

Company Director Virasaykham Philaphandeth told Vientiane Times that Isuzu brand and other pick-up vehicles are popular in Laos due to their strength and fuel economy.

The company, the only Isuzu dealer in Laos, opened in 2007. “We typically sell about 500 to 700 units each year and I want to reach our target of at least 100 vehicles per month this year by taking some of the market share from other models,” Mr. Virasaykham said. People in Vientiane and the provinces often chose an Isuzu when purchasing a vehicle and the brand is selling well, he said.

The company has a dealership in Champassak province and plans to open showrooms in other provinces soon in response to growing customer demand.

He said other popular imported vehicle brands include Toyota and Ford and some 4,000 units are sold each year according to figures from the Ministry of Public Works and Transport.

An Isuzu DMax currently sells for a little over 193 million kip (US$24,200) and the brand hopes to set a new standard for world class pick-up vehicles in Laos with good after sales service and financing for customers.

“I organised the caravan because I wanted to be able to give my customers exact information. I wanted to cite statistics that had been obtained in Laos, with the assistance of our customers, so they had a reliable reference. Isuzu in Thailand tested fuel consumption on a run from Bangkok to Singapore. Now I'm proud and happy to have figures relating to Laos. I'd like to organise a road trip from Vientiane to other provinces using other Isuzu models,” Mr. Virasaykham said.

The Isuzu Lao VSA Company is the only authorised representative for the Isuzu brand in Laos. It has received support to train and build the capacity of its staff from the Tri Petch Isuzu Sales Company in Thailand.
