CPI up over 2 per cent in March

Ha Noi's consumer price index rose by 2.41 per cent in March, a 13.56 per cent higher increase than in the same period last year, the city's General Statistics Office announced.

It was the highest increase in the past 12 months.

The CPI of HCM City increased 2.2 per cent this month, the strongest rise since November last year. The city's CPI in the first three months has surged by 9.75 per cent compared with the same period last year.

In March, prices in 11 commodity group increased; the highest rise in both cities was transport, blamed on a significant rise in petrol price.

The Ministry of Planning and Investment said the country's CPI was forecast to increase by 2.2 per cent in March.
