New garment factory opens

A garment factory Sante Laos, joint venture of US$ 2.3 million between local and Japanese investors, was opened on 9 February.

The factory, located at Phonsavath Neua village, Sikhottabong district, Vientiane Capital, will produce only trousers for men.

This is the second factory of the Sante Group of Japan and the Lao Fancy Garment Company with the aim of expanding its products to the high quality market of Japan.

This factory has employed Lao workers to turn out 30,000 trousers a day, accounting for 77 per cent of its designed full capacity. The factory expects to run at top gear by 2012.

The first Sante-Lao factory, worth US$1 million, inaugurated at Bor Na-ngoua, Chanthaboury district, Vientiane Capital, in 2008.
