Denmark funds competitiveness project
The Businesses Association in the southern province of An Giang last Friday held a seminar on a project to increase global competitiveness for Vietnamese enterprises.
The US$10.3 million project will be funded by the Danish International Development Agency untill 2013 in the cities and provinces of Nghe An, Thanh Hoa, Khanh Hoa, Phu Yen, Lam Dong, Dak Lak, An Giang and Can Tho.
Project senior advisor Amarnath Reddy told the seminar that the project would focus on agriculture, aquaculture, fisheries, handicrafts and tourism. It would also provide solutions to challenges faced by small businesses, household enterprises and farmers.
The project would offer new services to improve small producers'ability to export.
The project was designed to increase the competitiveness in export-oriented business sectors through better access to business services and exposure to innovative business models.
The project would help to reduce financial risk and identify and introduce new technologies and business models, apart from access to new markets.
During the first phase from 2006-10, the project provided VND135 billion ($6.4 million) to four provinces of Ha Tay (Now part of Ha Noi), central Nghe An and Khanh Hoa and Central Highlands Lam Dong to help create jobs for 6,400 people and provide vocational training for 8,100 others.
