Commercial bank offers credit for farmers
The Lien Viet Joint-Stock Commercial Bank (LienVietBank) has provided loans to more than 13,000 households in the Cuu Long (Mekong) Delta over the past five months, as part of a three-year credit programme.
For the 2010-13 period, the bank has earmarked a total of VND3-5 trillion (US$154 million to 257 million) for investment and development of an agricultural and rural loan programme in the Mekong Delta.
It plans to disburse a total of VND1.2 trillion in Can Tho City and the provinces of An Giang and Hau Giang this year. The programme is designed for households, farm owners and co-operatives in rural areas and for individuals and organisations involved in agricultural activities.
