Accountants gain higher profile within enterprises
Accounting and finance professionals are assuming greater strategic roles in business organisations, contributing significantly to corporate success, experts said at a seminar in Ha Noi yesterday.
Research by recruitment solutions provider Navigos Group found that accounting/finance ranked third amongst the top five functions with the highest demand for executive positions during the first three quarters of 2010.
"Of the total demand for accounting/finance manpower, 25 per cent was for finance managers and directors, four per cent for finance controllers and demand for chief accountants and accountants was 38 per cent and 33 per cent respectively," a Navigos press release said.
The research also revealed that demand for accounting and finance manpower was highest in the banking/finance sector at 46 per cent followed by trade and service sector with 32 per cent and manufacturing, engineering and construction sector with 22 per cent.
Nguyen Thi Van Anh, Managing Director of the Navigos Group said, "The recent monetary downturn was witness to the growing influence and control that CFOs and finance leaders have in guiding businesses through troubled times."
She said accountants are no longer seen as just book-keepers, but regarded as business partners skilled in divesting and restructuring businesses, developing financial models and analysing financial forecasts.
Le Thi Hong Len, Country Manager of the Association of Charted Certified Accountants (ACCA), said that changes in the roles were "partly a consequence of the downturn and partly an outcome of a growing recognition of the value that the finance function and professional accountants can add to an organisation".
About 200 CEOs, CFOs, HR Directors and HR managers from domestic and multinational corporations based in Ha Noi and surrounding areas attended the seminar.
