Vietnam sees speeding economy in 2011-2015

Vietnam's ruling party has projected annual economic growth at between 7.5 percent and 8 percent for the next five years, revising upwards its earlier targets, the party said in a report published on Wednesday.

The party has also forecast exports to grow an average 12 percent annually between 2011 and 2015, the draft political report prepared for the national congress early next year said.

In March, the party said it was targeting annual economic growth of 7-8 percent over the coming five years.

Vietnam's economy grows an estimated 6.9 percent per year in the five-year period ending 2010, with per capita income this year reaching around $1,200, the draft report said.

It envisaged per capital income to rise to around $2,100 by 2015 and the budget deficit to shrink to between 4 percent and 5 percent by 2015, from 6.2 percent forecast for 2010.

The latest economic growth target was released after the government said early this month the economy was expected to grow 6.7 percent this year, beating its target for the year of 6.5 percent.

The party said on Wednesday it was publishing drafts of reports of the next congress, inviting "organizations, officials, party members and people" to send their opinions by Oct. 15 to help finalize the documents.

The party holds a national congress once every five years to select new leaders and chart a socioeconomic and political course for the coming five years. The next sitting is scheduled for the first half of January 2011.
