Hanoi CPI up 0.96%

The September consumer price index (CPI) in Hanoi surged 0.96 percent month on month with educational products taking the lead at 7.17 percent, reported the Hanoi Statistics Office.

Experts attributed the phenomena to the inauguration of the 2010-11 school year, which was marked with an increase of tuition fees by private schools and vocational colleges and universities.

Except post and telecommunication services with stable prices, all the other groups of products witnessed slight increases in prices, fluctuating around 1 percent.

Experts from the Hanoi Statistics Office forecast CPI growth at 8.63 percent for the whole year.

Gold prices made a surge of 3.57 percent over the previous period while the US dollar value climbed by 1.35 percent.
