Supermarket prices go super low
A large number of supermarkets in big cities like Ha Noi and HCM City have cut down prices of many products in response to a campaign to attract more international and domestic consumers during the low season.
Accordingly, most products in big supermarkets such as Citimart, Lotte Mart, Maximark, Big C and Fivimart have been discounted by up to 50 per cent.
Big C recently announced four promotional programmes, in which the prices of about 1,500 products will be cut down by between 5 and 50 per cent.
The supermarket also affirmed that with the discount programmes, quality and hygiene safety would be ensured.
In HCM City, many supermarkets already announced their discount programmes.
The Saigon Co.op Mart chain programme entitled "Proud Vietnamese Goods" has attracted many customers, with more than 15,000 discounted goods.
About 400 suppliers had joined in this programme, which would last from August 22 to September 19, said a representative of the supermarket.
The programme was a festival for domestic producers and distributors to show off their abilities.
It was also a good chance for consumers to use Vietnamese products, said Nguyen Thi Hanh, General Director of Saigon Co.op Mart.
According to HCM City's Industry and Trade Department, more than 300 companies have registered to join the promotion programme.
About 1,000 places to sell discounted goods would be installed, with prices to be cut down by between 4 and 49 per cent, the department said.
Besides discount programmes, producers would also bring their goods to rural areas and industrial zones, said Tran Vinh Nhung, Deputy Director of the department.
