HCM City two-percent plan saves power since January

HCM City has exceeded its target for energy savings for the first seven months of the year, according to the HCM City Power Corporation.

To do so, the corporation worked with the HCM City Export Processing and Industrial Zones Authority, which encouraged companies to save 2 per cent of their energy consumption demands during the peak period of this year's dry season.

The city said 158.1 per cent of its target of energy savings was met during this period.

Local power companies said 821 restaurants, hotels, high-rise buildings and business households had agreed to save 5 to 10 per cent of their consumption demands.

The power companies said they provided guidance on energy-saving measures to households in the city.

During this period, the city also reduced public-lighting consumption by 45 per cent. Of the total number of 60,980 public lamps, only 33,476 are now in use.

In addition, the city's electricity sector has encouraged households to replace incandescent lamps with energy-saving compact fluorescent lamps and use solar-powered hot-water machines.

The city will also encourage business households to cut by half the number of their lights used for advertising billboards.

As part of its general energy savings, the city has also recognised 3,000 households for their energy efficiency.

In a related matter, the city's electricity sector plans to speed up its programme for large customers, in which special electric metres for normal, peak and ebb hours will be installed.

The city said it would continue to implement the second phase of a stand-alone campaign, called Household Energy Savings and Efficiency, which is directed toward 100,000 households that are members of the HCM City's Women Union.
