Customs to expand e-clearance services
The General Department of Customs is set to introduce e-customs at 12 more of its offices around the country to familiarise businesses with the process.
Businesses would be provided information through a data processing system.
The department introduced the service under a pilot programme last year at 10 of its offices and so far 24 offices offer it now.
More than 1,000 import-export businesses have so far registered to use e-customs and 885 actually use it.
E-customs allows businesses to process documents online any time during working hours, saving them visits to the customs office.
In the long term, the department targets having e-customs at 70 per cent of its offices country-wide and clearing 70 per cent of all goods online.
It also plans to expand the one-stop customs programme and simplify procedures as recommended by the Prime Minister's Project 30.
It will invest in improving the customs infrastructure, especially screening machines, cameras, and scales at ports, airports, and international borders.
