WB helps create flower growing alliance
The first flower growing alliance will be established in the central highland province of Lam Dong with financial support from the World Bank (WB).
An agreement to this effect was signed in Lam Dong on June 19 between Victoria Kwa Kwa, Director of the World Bank in Vietnam, and officials from the Ministry of Agricultural and Rural Development.
The alliance is one of the main components in WB sponsored projects to improve the country’s agricultural competitiveness.
It is backed by Da Lat Flower Bio-technology Company of 41 households growing flowers. With the sponsored capital of US$93,000 out of the US$284,000, households joining the alliance will be provided with US$2,000 each to build glass houses and install modern watering systems.
The company is financed with US$20,000 to transfer high technology for planting Jimpa daisies to the farmers and help promote their products.
The farmers will be assisted to grow flowers in accordance with VietGap standards and their products will be bought by the company for export.
The alliance’s success will set an important precedent to expand this model across the province.
Pham Van An, Head of the Lam Dong Provincial Department of Agriculture and Rural Development, said that the WB’s assistance will enable the farmers to access modern techniques and improve their production capacity.
