US logistics company opens Vietnam branch

The US-based BDP International Global Logistics and Transportation Company announced the establishment of its first international transport branch in Ho Chi Minh City at a press conference on June 17.

Mike Andaloro, BDP Managing Director for the Asia-Pacific region, said Vietnam is a potential market as the country ranks fifth in Asia in term of foreign investment attraction and its import-export taxes on a number of commodities have decreased following the signing of bilateral trade agreements with several countries.

These are favourable conditions for the country to develop its transport services and draw foreign companies’ attention, he noted.

According to the Ministry of Transport, more than 240 million tonnes of goods go through Vietnam ’s seaport system each year.

The total volume of goods passing through Vietnamese ports is forecast to reach 500 million tonnes by 2015, 1 billion tonnes by 2020 and 2 billion tonnes in 2030.
