Litchi exports see sharp increase

Around 35,000-40,000 tonnes of litchi nuts will be exported to markets in southwestern China through the Lao Cai international border gate this year.

This year, Vietnamese fresh fruit businesses have found it easier to export their products to China after a deal was reached on fresh fruit exports and imports between Lao Cai Province and Hunan Province.

By May 26, more than 25,000 tonnes of fresh litchi nuts had been exported to China.

According to the Head of the Industry and Trade Department in Lao Cai Province, Le Ngoc Hung, between 1,000-1,500 tonnes of fresh litchi from the northern provinces of Bac Giang and Hai Duong are exported to China every day.

Vietnamese businesses find it beneficial to export their products to China through official trade channels because of the stable prices and easy procedures, Mr. Hung noted.
